What is the difference between Karate, Taekwondo and Martial Arts?

What is the difference between Karate, Taekwondo and Martial Arts? Generally speaking, not a lot. These terms are used interchangeably by most. There are certainly people who will debate the difference in terms of style and preference, but when most people use one of those three terms, they are talking about one in the same thing. But to be literal, Taekwondo originated in Korea, while Karate originated in Japan. Martial arts is a term that collectively refers to many different fighting techniques. Wikipedia has a nice list of all martial arts.
